There are many situations in which you may need to extract text form images on your PC. It doesn’t matter if you want to copy information from a receipt, important document, or a sign that appears in the background of an images. It can be tedious and time-consuming to manually read and type everything.

Microsoft OneNote is the most versatile of all the Microsoft products Best Note-taking Apps for Windows. To quickly extract text from images, you can also use OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
Here’s how you can use OneNote on your Windows 11 PC to extract text from images:
Step 1 Use the Windows + S keys to type OneNote. Next, select OneNote from the list and click Open to open it on your computer.

Step 2 Once OneNote is open, click on the Insert tab.

Step 3 Click on Pictures from the Images Group.

Step 4 Click on Insert to open the Insert Picture window. Select the image from which you wish to extract text and click on it.

Step 5: When OneNote imports the image, right-click on the image and select ‘Copy Text from Picture’ option.

Step 6 To paste the text that you have just extracted, click anywhere in the area adjacent to the image. The formatting may need to be adjusted.

Google Drive is also available to extract text and images from Windows 11 computers. Upload the image to Google Drive and then open it with Google Docs. Here are the steps:

Step 1 Open Google Drive using a web browser. Sign in with your Google account details.
Step 2 Click the New button at the top-left corner.

Step 2 Select the File Upload option from the context menu.

Step 3 Open (File Explorer), a window will open on your screen. Click on the image you want text extracted from, and then click on Open.

Step 4 Click on the Recent tab in Google Drive’s left sidebar after the image has been uploaded. Next, right-click the image you just uploaded and choose Open with.

That’ll open a new Google Docs document with your image in a new browser tab and it’ll also have the text extracted from the image. You can delete the image and modify the extracted text.

Windows has an easy way of extracting text from images using the Text Extractor feature in the latest Windows PowerToys edition. After enabling this feature, you can use it to extract text from images, videos or anything that appears on your computer’s screen.
Here’s how you can download Microsoft PowerToys and enable the Text Extractor feature on your Windows 11 PC:
Step 1 Click the link to download Power Toys from Microsoft Store.

Step 2 Once the download is complete, you will see a UAC prompt on your screen. Click Yes.

Step 3 Use the Windows + S keys to type PowerToys. Click on Open in the PowerToys results to launch it.

Step 4 Scroll down using the scroll bar to the left and click the Text Extractor in the PowerToys Settings Window.

Step 5: Click the Enable Text Extractor toggle on the Text Extractor page to activate the feature.
To change the default activation shortcut, click on the pen symbol under the Shortcut section. It is as it is now, but you can always change it.

Step 6 Press the Windows + Shift + T keys to access the text extractor from anywhere on your computer.

TheThe Text Extractor activates the selection interface. When the mouse pointer becomes a plus sign, the rest of the screen is grayed out.
To create a box, you will need to drag the plus signer by left-clicking and drag it over the text that you wish to remove. Next, move your finger to the left mouse button and copy the text.

You can then press the Ctrl+V keys to copy the text from the image into Notepad, Word, or any other document.
