How to Use Snooze in Gmail on Mobile and Desktop

Maintaining your business using Google Workspace can help track your emails while monitoring other parameters, like site views, all in one place. But when you get overwhelmed by emails, you can use Snooze in Gmail to temporarily eliminate the ones that are not urgent.

How to Customize and Use Snooze in Gmail on Mobile and Desktop

When you use Snooze in Gmail, it temporarily removes the email from the selected inbox. Then, once the set time is up, they again pop up, only this time at the top of the inbox. What Happens When You Snooze an Email in Gmail

Before we discuss how you can Snooze emails in Gmail, let us quickly look at what happens when you do.

  • Important emails first: Once you Snooze an email, it appears at the top of the respective inbox when it is unsnoozed. Please note that certain unsnoozed emails might also appear when they are snoozed.
  • Snooze in bulk: If you have more than one email that you wish to Snooze, select them all together. Then, select Snooze from the menu options.
  • Choose the Snooze time: Depending on when you Snooze, Gmail gives you a few pre-determined options. Or, you can set your preferred date and time. This will ensure the selected emails unsnooze at the set time.
  • Snooze what you want: You can Snooze any email in Gmail; this includes emails in your Primary, Promotional, and Update inboxes. You can also Snooze emails that have already been sent.
  • All snoozed emails in one place: The Gmail desktop and mobile app has a separate section for housing your snoozed emails. This can help track snoozed emails and, if required, edit them from this list.

    Now that we know more about what happens when you Snooze an email in Gmail, let us look at how to do it using the Gmail mobile and desktop apps.

    On Mobile

    Step 1: Open the Gmail mobile app and select the relevant emails. Then, tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner.

    Tip: You can also tap on Select all to select all the emails currently visible on your screen.

    Step 2: Tap on Snooze.

    Step 3: Here, select any of the available snooze date and time combinations. Or, tap on ‘Select date and time’ to set a custom Snooze time.

    Step 4: When setting a custom Snooze time, first use the calendar to set the Snooze date. Once done, tap on OK.

    Step 5: Then, use the clock to select a custom Snooze time and tap on OK.

    Step 6: Now, review the Snooze date and time. Once done, tap on Save.

    On Desktop

    Step 1: Open Gmail on any web browser.

    Step 2: Now, select all the relevant emails. Then, go to the menu options and click on Snooze.

    Step 3: Here, select any of the pre-fed snooze timings. Or, click on ‘Pick date & time’ to set a custom date and time.

    Tip: If you wish to snooze a single email, hover over it until the options appear. Then, click on Snooze and select the snooze time.

    Step 4: Here, select the relevant date from the calendar. Then, set the snooze time.

    Step 5: Once done, click on Save.

    This will immediately snooze the selected emails in Gmail. If you immediately wish to unsnooze them, click on the Undo option, which will be visible on the screen for a limited time. Otherwise, continue reading.

    How to Find and Edit Snoozed Emails in Gmail

    Snoozed emails appear in a separate section in Gmail. Using this, you can find the snoozed emails in Gmail. If required, you can also edit the currently snoozed date or time as well. Once done, the email will unsnooze at the new time. Here’s how to do it on the Gmail desktop and mobile apps.

    On Mobile

    Step 1: Open the Gmail mobile app and tap the hamburger icon.

    Step 2: Here, tap on Snoozed.

    All the currently snoozed emails will now be visible.

    Step 3: Now, long-press and select the emails whose snooze details you wish to edit. Or, tap on Select all to select all the currently visible emails.

    Step 5: Then, tap on the three-dot icon.

    Step 7: Here, select a new pre-fed snooze time or set a custom date and time.

    On Desktop

    Step 1: From the side menu options, click on Snoozed. All the currently snoozed emails should be visible.

    Step 2: Then, select the emails you wish to change the snooze time for.

    Step 3: Click on the Snooze icon from the menu options.

    Step 4: Here, select an already available Snooze time or set your custom time and date for snoozing the email.

    Once done, the email will be snoozed until the newly selected date and time in Gmail.

    How to Remove or Delete Snoozed Emails in Gmail

    If you have accidentally snoozed an email or no longer need it snoozed, you can remove it. Once done, this email will return to where it was previously visible in your Gmail inbox. Follow the below steps to do it.

    On Mobile

    Step 1: Open the Gmail mobile app and tap the hamburger icon → Snoozed.

    Step 2: Here, select the snoozed emails you wish to remove or tap on Select all to select all the currently visible emails.

    Step 3: Then, tap on the three-dot icon. Tap on Unsnooze.

    Step 1: Go to the side menu and click on Snoozed.

    Step 2: Select all the emails you wish to unsnooze and click on the Snooze icon.

    This will immediately remove the selected emails from the Snoozed section and move them to your Gmail inbox.

    Bonus: Change Email Swipe Actions in Gmail

    If you frequently Snooze emails in Gmail, you can configure the swipe actions to do it in a jiffy. This way, instead of going through all the menu options, you can swipe left or right to snooze the relevant email quickly. Here’s how to do it on the Gmail mobile app.

    Step 1: Open the Gmail mobile app and tap the hamburger menu icon in the top-left corner.

    Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Settings.

    Step 4: Once the Settings options open, tap on Email swipe actions.

    Note: If you use the Gmail iOS app, go to the Inbox section and tap on Inbox customizations. Then, tap on Email swipe actions.

    FAQs for Snoozing Emails in Gmail

    1. Are Snooze and Mute the same on Gmail?

    No. When you Mute an email in Gmail, it essentially disappears from your inbox unless you unmute it again. You will not be notified of these emails, and they will be automatically removed. Whereas, Snooze temporarily moves these emails to a different section. Once the time is up, they will appear back in your inbox.     2. What happens when you Snooze a sent email in Gmail?

    Just like a regular email in your inbox, any snoozed sent emails will also appear in the Snoozed section. However, the catch is that these sent emails will still be visible in the Sent section with the snooze time visible in front of it. Once the time is up, these sent emails will appear at the top of your inbox in Gmail.
