Try playing a different audio track, or switch to a different app. If you’re using Apple Music, try playing a video on YouTube to see if the issue persists.

If you’ve been using your pair of AirPods for a long time, dirt might have accumulated on the ear tips and the speaker grille. This is especially true if you have the AirPods Pro with silicone ear tips. That can block the sound output or make it sound distorted.

Clean the ear tips on your AirPods by rubbing a soft microfiber cloth using Isopropyl alcohol. You can also use some Q-tips to remove any grime that may have settled there. Try using the earbuds to see if cleaning helps clear up the sounds.

6. Update Your AirPods to the Latest Firmware

Just like your iPhone, the AirPods run on firmware developed by Apple. The firmware on the AirPods is responsible for all the features and proper functioning of the earbuds. If there is a newer version of firmware available for your AirPods, all you have to do is put your AirPods inside the case while they’re connected to your phone. Now, connect a lightning cable to your AirPods to start charging them, and the firmware update should take place in the background.

In case there is a widespread hardware issue with a certain AirPods model, Apple will acknowledge it with a replacement program.
