How to Fix a Yellow Triangle Warning Symbol on the Battery in Windows

Are you seeing a yellow triangle warning on the battery icon on Windows? Don’t worry just yet; it’s a very common Windows issue, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to buy and install a brand new battery.

The yellow triangle warning indicates that the system has encountered an issue with the battery. Although the sign doesn’t highlight the problem, it does tell that the battery has generated an error. As such, let’s check out how to solve this issue on your Windows PC.

Why Does My Battery Show a Yellow Triangle Warning Sign?

In general, the yellow triangle warning on Windows laptops mainly indicates low battery. When the laptop charge goes below 10%, the device starts showing the battery percentage using a yellow warning. But if you see the warning on a fully charged device, there might be something wrong.

The issue is prevalent on new devices and occurs on the first system boot. One of the primary reasons behind the warning can be a temporary battery glitch. Additionally, the problem can also occur if an external display is connected to the USB-C port of the system.

There are multiple solutions you can try to remove the yellow triangle warning on the battery. Let’s check them out.

1. Unplug the External Monitor

The yellow triangle warning on the battery can result due to an external display attached to the USB-C port of the problematic device. If the USB-C port cannot provide the power required by the external display, you’ll face the issue. You will have to remove the external display to fix the problem.

Do it, and check if it fixes the issue. If not, try the next solution on the list.

2. Run the Power Troubleshooter

The problem can result from a temporary battery glitch. In this situation, you will have to run the power troubleshooter to fix the issue. The power troubleshooter is a built-in Windows utility that detects and fixes minor battery issues, such as when a laptop is plugged in but not charging.

Below are the steps you need to follow to run the power troubleshooter on your device.

  1. Open Settings by pressing the Win + I hotkeys.
  2. Click on the Troubleshoot option present under the System tab.
  3. Choose Other troubleshooters.
  4. Click on the Run button next to the Power option.
  5. The troubleshooting window will pop up and try to detect the issue.

After the troubleshooting process is complete, check if the yellow warning is removed or not.

3. Change the Power Settings to Default

The next solution you can try in this situation is to restore the power settings to their default entries. You can do it by following the below steps.

  1. Open the Start Menu, type Control Panel, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings.
  3. Click on Restore default settings for this plan.
  4. Choose Yes on the confirmation prompt that pops up.

Now, reboot your system and check for the issue.

4. Uninstall and Reinstall the Battery Driver

If none of the above steps were helpful, the last thing you can do is uninstall and then reinstall the battery driver. You can do it by following the below steps.

  1. Turn off the device, and remove the power chord.
  2. Remove the battery from the device, and attach the power chord again.
  3. Reboot the system, and open the Device Manager.
  4. Double-click on Batteries to expand the option.
  5. Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and choose Uninstall from the context menu.
  6. Turn off your device.
  7. Remove the power chord and attach the battery to the device.
  8. Turn on the device.

On boot, the battery driver will be installed automatically.

We hope the solutions were helpful in removing the yellow triangle warning on the battery. But in the worst-case scenario, if you are still facing the problem, you will have to replace the battery.
