How to Get a Better Look at Someone’s Discord Profile Picture
Discord generally doesn’t let you view other users’ profile pictures in high resolution. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a clear look at the bigger and better version of someone’s display picture.
Maybe you want to see someone’s profile picture for identification purposes. Or perhaps, you came across an interesting display picture that you want to save and use as your own. Whatever the reason is, viewing someone’s Discord profile picture in full size is rather easy.
Use Discord Web to View Full-Size Profile Pictures
If you don’t want to use third-party apps and websites to do such a mundane task, you can use your web browser’s developer tools to extract a higher-resolution version of someone’s profile picture.
To begin, head over to discord.com/app and log in to your account. Then, click on the user whose profile picture you want to view in high quality. This can be your friend or a stranger you came across while finding random Discord servers to join. The user’s profile page would look like this:
Now, press Ctrl + Shift + I to open the DevTools window. This keyboard shortcut should work on almost every major web browser available. If it doesn’t work for you, consider searching the keyboard shortcut for opening DevTools on the browser you’re using.
When the DevTools window pops up, click the Select an Element in the Page option.
On Google Chrome, you can find it in the far-left corner of the window. Other browsers may not have a similar layout so make sure to play around with the options first.
Then, hover over the profile picture and left-click once the element is highlighted.
Keep expanding the HTML tags (div > svg > foreignObject > div > img) until you find an img tag with an src attribute. This attribute value is the image URL you’re looking for. Copy the URL and open it in a new tab.
Now, change the ?size=128 string at the end of the URL to ?size=512 or ?size=1024. Depending on your desired resolution, you can replace 128 with 256, 512, or 1024. Edit the URL and press Enter to view the Discord profile picture in high quality.
See Discord Display Pictures in High-Quality Using Dyno
The above-stated process involves a lot of steps and isn’t optimal if you want a quick and easy solution. A better way to get high-quality profile pictures on Discord is using Dyno, a moderation bot for Discord servers. But that’s not what you’ll use it for.
Instead, you want to use the whois function of the bot, which displays information about a specific user, including their joining date, user ID, registration date, server roles, and key permissions.
Step 1: Invite Dyno to Your Server
To start, go to dyno.gg and click the Add To Server button on the homepage. Select the Free Plan by clicking the Add to Server option below it. You’ll need to log in to your Discord account so that Dyno can access the list of servers you own.
Select the server from the dropdown menu and click Continue. Within a few seconds, Dyno will join the server and you can start using it to view Discord profile pictures in full size.
Step 2: Using the /whois Command
Now you need to type “/whois @username” in the message box, where “/” is the character Dyno uses to identify commands directed at it and whois is the name of the function. Make sure to mention the user using the @ feature and not simply type their username in the chat.
Once you’ve sent the message, Dyno will respond with a neatly organized card consisting of all the information about that specific user.
Since you’re only interested in the profile picture, click the image to expand it within Discord; then, click Open original to view the image in a browser.
Your default web browser will launch and the high-quality image will load in a jiffy.
Using Third-Party Websites to View Discord Profile Pics
The previous methods work best when you use Discord using either the web version or the desktop client. But what about those who only use the Discord app on their smartphones?
Don’t worry as you can view and download a user’s profile picture using third-party tools and websites. One such website is Toolscord.
Begin by heading over to toolscord.com. At first glance, you’ll notice that the website requires a Discord ID to view a user’s display picture. The Discord ID is an 18-character-long numerical string used for identification purposes.
Discord hides the IDs of its users by default. But it isn’t impossible to get your hands on them. All you need to do is enable developer mode on Discord. Here’s how to do it:
On the mobile app, you need to tap your profile picture at the bottom-right corner of the screen to open settings. Then, tap Appearance, and under the Advanced section, toggle Developer Mode on.
Then, open a user’s profile and tap the three-dots menu icon on the top-right corner. Select the Copy ID option to proceed.
Once you have got the user ID, paste it into the text field on Toolscord. Click I’m not a robot and complete the captcha for verification. As soon as you click View Profile, the user’s profile picture along with other relevant details will be displayed.
Click on the profile image to open it in a new tab in high resolution. You can then either copy or save the image to your computer.
