How to make an online resume in Notion

​​​​​​While some employers prefer resumes in a PDF or Word document, sometimes you get the opportunity to be more creative. Why not make your resume online in Notion to stand out?

Not only can you send off a Notion resume by simply sharing a link, but you’ll also have a document that’s organized, easy to read, and clickable, just like a website. It’s easy to update the document if something is missing or you make a mistake. Continue reading to find out how.

Use the Notion Resume Template to Find and Use

Click the button below to start your Notion Resume. Templates. You’ll find the resume template below the Personal heading. Click on it to activate Use this template In the upper-right corner. Notion will create a page for you called Resume. You can replace the title with your own name.

Now it’s time to swap out the placeholder graphics for your own.

Cover Image

A cover image can be added to Notion to give a page personality and interest. You can swap it by hovering over it and clicking Change your cover. Within the cover menu, you can choose an image from Notion’s gallery, upload one from your computer, link to one, or explore Unsplash’s free stock photos to source one. If you wish, you can also delete it.

After you have added an image, adjust it by hovering over the image again and selecting Reposition. You can now drag it up or down until it fills in the header as you like.

Do not stress too much about your cover photo. If you can’t think of anything to go here right now, come back to it later. Keep in mind, it’s better to go with something abstract rather than a low-quality or overly personal image.

Modify the page icon

To change the page’s main icon, click it and look through your options. Notion has many icons and emojis. There are many options for custom symbols. If you’re unsure what to pick, go with something that works with your industry, career, or passion—even if you need to get a bit clever or abstract. The icon can be removed if you wish.

What should you include on your Notion Resume?

Next, replace the placeholder text with your own. There are many resources available if you need help. Here are some tips for how to create a resume It’s there.

1. Tagline

Your tagline should be concise. You don’t want to give away everything from the start. Your resume should be persuasive.

If you’re unsure what to place here, look at your LinkedIn page. Alternatively, look for inspiration on your peers’ profiles. It’s like an elevator speech. What would you say if you were given ten seconds to introduce yourself to someone you are interested in working with?

2. Contact Information

You can replace the emojis that appear beside your contact information by pulling up your commands using forward slashes and then typing the emojis. You’ll see the option to add them to your block. You can click it to select from the menu. If you want a minimalist look, you can delete them.

Drag and drop the six dots located to the left of each block to rearrange the text. To adjust the size horizontally, hover over each block.

3. Work Experience

Notion’s done a lot of work for you with this template. Simply find a copy or link to your LinkedIn profile and fill in the details about your work experience. Begin with one job. You can then format it however you wish. You can add more experience by copying and pasting it.

4. Skills

5. Articles and talks

No worries if you don’t have anything to include here, but this is where you can include a little social proof to back your resume. For example, you’re a developer and:

  • You contributed a guest article to a blog about software trends.
  • Someone interviewed you about what it’s like to work in tech.
  • Your employer created a highlight article to introduce you.
  • Include links so that potential employers can find them.

    6. Education

    You should fill this out in the same manner as you filled out your work experience section. Everyone lists education differently, so check out some examples around the internet if you’re unsure.

    Additional sections you could add to your Notion Resume

    There may be additional sections you are interested in for your resume. You can quickly add a section to your page with commands. You can also consider adding these sections to your page:

  • Accomplishments
  • Hobbies
  • Interests
  • Testimonials/Recommendations
  • Portfolio links
  • Remember that less is often more.

    Publishing and sharing your notion resume with others

    You can begin to create your resume once it is completed. Turn it into a public webpage Go to the Share Click the button in the upper-right corner of your screen to toggle on Share to web. Once you do, you’ll want to ensure editing and comments are off. You can also turn duplication off if you don’t want someone using your resume as a template.

    Before you publish, double-check your page to ensure you’re not sharing any overly personal information or links to other pages in your Notion that you don’t want others to have access to. After it’s up, you can use the link to share it with anyone you’d like.
