Whether you want to congratulate someone on their birthday or marriage anniversary or simply describe a video scene with trendy text prompts, the apps below will get the job done in no time.

1. Use Clips to Add Text Prompts on Videos

While the default Photos app has a capable video editor, it doesn’t support inserting text on videos. Instead, you can use the Clips app to make such changes. It’s developed by Apple and comes preinstalled on iPhone.

Step 1: Launch Clips on iPhone.

Step 2: Tap the gallery icon and select Photos.

Step 3: Select a video you want to edit. Tap Add.

Step 4: Select your video at the bottom and check the editing options on offer.

Step 5: Tap Effects and select Text. Scroll down and choose from a long list of text prompts. You can drag and drop to place the text in a relevant position and even edit the text.

You can also apply stickers and emojis to your videos. Once you are satisfied with the changes, tap the share button and hit Save Video.

Open the Photos app, and your edited video should be ready to use.

2. Use WhatsApp to Add Text to Videos

Do you plan to share your edited video on WhatsApp? You can use WhatsApp’s built-in editor instead of making changes via another app. Here’s how.

Step 1: Open a conversation in WhatsApp and tap the + icon beside the message box.

Step 2: Select Photos. Find your video.

Step 3: Tap the Text (T). Pick the style and color you fancy, then place it in a relevant place.

Step 4: Select HD at the top and tap HD Quality.

And, that’s about it. Your video will not have text excerpts wherever you put them. You can also send the edited video to yourself on WhatsApp and download it on your phone. If anything, using this method will dial down your video quality to HD resolution only.

3. Use Telegram to Insert Text to Videos

Telegram offers even more text editing add-ons for your videos. Let’s check it in action and see how you can use it to add text prompts on your iPhone videos for free.

Step 1: Launch Telegram and open a conversation. Like WhatsApp, you can message yourself and download the edited video.

Step 2: Tap the pin icon beside the message box and select a video.

Step 3: Tap the pen icon and slide to Text.

Step 4: Pick your preferred text style, change its position, and tweak the shade for better contrast. Once you’re happy with the results, press Done.

Step 5: Use the slider on the left to increase or decrease text size. Tap 480p at the bottom and increase the video resolution using the slider.

Step 6: Once done, you can send the video to yourself. You can then long-tap on the sent video and select Save Video from the options that follow.

Launch the Photos app and share your video on social media.

4. Try Third-Party Video Editors

You can also use third-party video editors to apply text to videos. The iOS ecosystem is packed with dozens of such apps to edit videos like a pro. Let’s take Splice as an example.

Step 1: Install Splice and open it on your iPhone. Give it the necessary permissions to access device files.

Step 2: Tap New Project. Select a video from the subsequent menu.

Step 3: The app will open a new project with a slew of video editing features at the bottom. Tap Text.

Step 4: You can add different text prompts to specific parts of a video.

Step 5: As for customization, Splice lets you change color, font style, background, alignment, border, and other details, too.

Step 6: Preview your video, hit export, and pick a resolution, file format, and frames per second. Once you’re satisfied with your selection, tap on Export video.

Note that while most Splice features are locked behind a paywall, the ability to add text to a video is completely free.

Create Trendy Videos

Most iPhone users should be completely fine with the default Clips app on iPhone. It’s feature-rich, comes with dozens of text customization options, and even integrates with the default Camera app. WhatsApp and Telegram should be preferred for last-minute edits only. However, if you want even more video editing options, you may want to take some third-party apps for a spin.
